Pogue Colonel: Marine, what is that button on your body armor?

Private Joker: A peace symbol, sir.

Pogue Colonel: Where'd you get it?

Private Joker: I don't remember, sir.

Pogue Colonel: What is that you've got written on your helmet?

Private Joker: "Born to Kill", sir.

Pogue Colonel: You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?

Private Joker: No, sir.

Pogue Colonel: You'd better get your head and your ass wired together, or I will take a giant shit on you.

Private Joker: Yes, sir.

Pogue Colonel: Now answer my question or you'll be standing tall before the man.

Private Joker: I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir.

Pogue Colonel: The what?

Private Joker: The duality of man. The Jungian thing, sir.

Pogue Colonel: Whose side are you on, son?

Private Joker: Our side, sir.

Pogue Colonel: Don't you love your country?

Private Joker: Yes, sir.

Pogue Colonel: Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win?

Private Joker: Yes, sir.

Pogue Colonel: Son, all I've ever asked of my marines is that they obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help the Vietnamese, because inside every gook there is an American trying to get out. It's a hardball world, son. We've gotta keep our heads until this peace craze blows over.

Private Joker: Aye-aye, sir.

Dear Friends,

UbuWeb is offline for the summer.

The UbuWeb Project -- a decade-long experiment in radical distribution of avant-garde materials -- has finished. Founded in 1996, the project has been a success beyond anyone's wildest expectations. As of Spring, 2005, it averaged over 10,000 visitors daily and hosted nearly a terabyte of artworks in all media by over 500 artists.

The site will be donated to a university shortly, where it will be archived intact for posterity. All content on the site will be available to the public, but please note that the site will no longer be updated. A URL linking to the archive will be posted on this page.

In the meantime, please listen to UbuRadio, a continuous 24-hour MP3 stream, randomly culled from UbuWeb's vast sound collection. To listen please paste the following URL into your MP3 player:

http://peacemaker.stat.wvu.edu/ubu_radio

(UbuWeb would like to thank the The Center for Literary Computing at West Virginia University for making our radio stream possible.)

Check back here in the Fall for UbuWeb's new URL.

The editors wish to thank you for supporting this experiment and, as a result, may a thousand flowers bloom in its wake.

Sincerely,
The Editors

Bush win this election, it will give him the distinction of being the first occupant of the White House to have survived naming Dick Cheney to a post in his administration. The Cheney jinx first manifested itself at the presidential level back in 1969, when Richard Nixon appointed him to his first job in the executive branch. It surfaced again in 1975, when Gerald Ford made Cheney his chief of staff and then -- with Cheney's help -- lost the 1976 election. George H.W. Bush, having named Cheney secretary of defense, was defeated for re-election in 1992. The ever-canny Ronald Reagan was the only Republican president since Eisenhower who managed to serve two full terms. He is also the only one not to have appointed Dick Cheney to office.

August 14, 2004
Harassment Log
All morning long I have been hit with this device, weather it is microwave (most likely) or some other form of radio wave device, I am still being hit with it. The voice to skull continues just like every day, stupid shit as always. example, A female voice saying “you better go over there and do something” and a male voice saying “if you don't do something I’m going too” and then the regular shit which is pretty much constant “see, that’s what I mean” or “he thinks the feds or going to do something” and much, much, more.

August 15, 2004
Along with my eyes and heart being targeted, the last few days my ass and my neck have become favorite targets also, along with my groin. How sick, right? Well that is after all how these people are, and to think some of them have kids. Make you wonder just how they will go up given the chance.
(...from Electronic Harrassment)

Interview with vice-chairman of EFF John Perry Barlow

John Perry Barlow is one of those fascinating figures that American culture regularly produces to our great benefit and occasional consternation. Born in 1947 in Wyoming, he ran his family’s cattle ranch for 17 years. Unique among Equality State ranchers, his words filled the ears of millions, because he wrote lyrics to the music of his childhood buddy, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. (Among his credits are "Estimated Prophet," "Hell in a Bucket," and "Throwing Stones.") Barlow and Weir met in the early 1960s at a Colorado prep school for, as Dead biographer Dennis McNally gently described it, "boys with behavioral problems."
(read on...)
